Puglia is a perfect destination both fr adults and children, both for sea vacation and a vacation full of activities. In this post I’ll right some ideas for you family vacation, especially ideas regarding what to do in Puglia except the beach.
Looking at the experience of families to whom I organized a vacation in Puglia, children are satisfied with everything what is around. What do they usually do? Let’s see:
- Children enthusiastically cook during cooking master-classes, from 7-8 years and older.
- Children adore boats and yacht rides, especially when they can jump into the sea. Making this activity you also visit beautiful grottos in the bottom of the peninsula, which is really scenographic.
- Children take lessons of a horse ride or go to drive go-Karts, there are various tracks adequate for kids as well in Puglia.
- Children visit masserias and are happy to communicate with animals.
- Some children learnet how to make pizza if there was a private oven in villa, someone made a bicycle rides with parents in Apulian countryside and someone was observing the stars at night from the villa roof.
- Walking around Alberobello or in Valle d’Itria, children were amazed with funny trulli, imagining that some gnomes might live there.
- Children played volleyed football with local children and no barrier existed.
- But the most important, parent cold not take their children out of the water! So warm, so beautiful it was.

Zoo Safari in Fasano
This is the largest zoo park in Europe. Or you are an adult, or you are a child, believe me, you will not regret. Everyone who comes here falls in love, especially with giraffes and their long purple tongues trying to catch the carrot.
Lions, bears, monkeys, zebras – all animals are walking around the park free, while you remain in the car. The park includes a part of the safari on the visitor’s own car, and another part by foot and the third part is dedicated to shows with sea ions, penguins and rides. There is also a food court for a snack on the territory of zoo safari.
The most important information is that the zoo is open until 15:00. Considering the increased traffic from spring to autumn, plan 2-3 hours to visit the park. From April to September, the zoo safari is open every day until 15:00. The ticket office is open until 14:00. In other months, the schedule changes. Don’t forget to take more carrots for animals!
Caves Grotte di Castellana
Grotte di Castellana – is one of the wold wonders. одно из чудес света. Discovered in 1938 by the caver Franco Anelli, today the caves with a depth of 70 meters attract visitors of all ages from around the world. A lot off kids do like to explore various caves, so this might be a good activity for them in Puglia.
Stalactites, stalagmites, various caves are combined in two routes:
1) a full route of 3 km and 120 minutes;
2) a shortened route of 1 km and 50 minutes with a guide.
Except the excursions you can visit performances based on Dante Alighieri “Divina Comedia”, but this is more appropriate for children over 13.
Acquaparks in Puglia
In Puglia there are 3 amusement parks of this type in various parts of the region.
For example, Curtipetrizzilandia Acquapark is a resort complex in Cellino San Marco, located north of Lecce. Here you will find about 2,000 m² with swimming pools, plenty of water slides, as well as a picnic area. In addition to the water park on the territory of the complex there is a mini zoo located in the forest near the main part of the park, a playground in the jungle and a dinosaur park.
Masseria Didattica
Masseria didattica is a farm with animals. It can be either a pure production of local products, or it can be a restaurant open for public with a cheese factory for example, and there will be an open air area with animals. But the most interesting is that such masserias aim is to bring children closer to the nature, to animals. In such masserias there are usually donkeys, ponies, horses, rabbits, deers, some types of birds grazing in the meadow which can be observed from afar or even children can touch them, depends how it is organized.
All this is made to attract more attention to the nature, to teach children to respect it and all the elements of flora and fauna which completes our nature. And not all such masserias are restaurants. Another type is a kind of an educational institution and can be an additional activity to kindergartens. Instead of being inside and have lessons, children explore everything outside together with teachers. But this activity is possible only for those children who speak Italian.
Adventure park – Indiana park
It is a big adventure park in Puglia near Bari.

Indiana is an exciting adventure park surrounded by a magnificent oak forest in the province of Bari. This is the first adventure park in Italy which was created for all ages. Even children who are 2 years old can participate under the control of supervisors.
The park is characterized by breathtaking trails suspended between trees, and is suitable for everyone both for adults and for children of different ages. It is an ideal place to spend a day with family and friends, breathe nature in complete safety.
To pass the adventure trails there is no need to have special sports skills. Any person in normal and healthy physical conditions can try his/her own forces at various acrobatic routes, consisting of Tibetan bridges, climbing, ropes, swinging logs, long paths and ropes to feel like Tarzan, flying from one tree to another.
Al the routes are made in the air from one tree to another; a person moves along specific paths that require minimal qualities of balance, dexterity and coordination. You will always move in absolute safety, as you will be constantly fastened to a steel cable with carbines. And, of course, a team consisting of experienced instructors and specialists in specific types of activities will be always present in the park.

Puglia sandy beaches
All children at their time begin to adore the sea! And Puglia in this sense is an ideal place for children with its 800 km of the coast, two seas – Adriatic and Ionian, and tens of kilometers of sandy gently sloping beaches. Still n this region you will find absolutely different coastlines: from high rocks, to a natural pools made from stone to large beaches with which sand. But beach is not only sunbathing and and swimming, it is also beach sports – volleyball and beach football. Here everything depends on the character of your child and his intention to make friendships.
