As Puglia is a land of wine, I invite you to the wivery!
You have probably already tried Chianti, Barolo or Amarone. But have you ever tried Primitivo and Negroamaro the way you can try it in Puglia? Arriving at the “heel” of the Italian boot you will taste the two main grapes that are autochthon, i.e. native grapes, and that make wonderful wine!
Primitive means the first. This grape ripens before any other, at least in Italy. While we were walking through the still unripe Sangiovese in Cortona in early August 2019, in Puglia farmers were already preparing for the collection of dark blue grapes with an incredible sugar content in it!
Regardless of your location, we will arrange for you a visit to the winery with wine tasting accompanied by a sommelier and usually winery owners as it is a family business like most enterprises in Italy.
Usually, a visit and a wine tasting takes 1.5-2 hours and is held in farm houses called here masseries — ancient Puglia manors. During the visit, you’ll be shown the winery itself, grapes particularities and vinification processes will be explained and at the end along with the sommelier of the winery, you will taste the wines. And if you will travel in Puglia in August, you may see the process of vendemmia — grape harvesting.
